why?

why is it core i7? and not core i8 (coz of 8 logical processors)? hehe, why is it windows 7 and not 9 (coz of yr 2009)? funny, what's with the number 7?? hmm, david beckham? nooo, intel is not from uk ... and us isn't pro soccer either, why why??

intel core i7 summit

went to a 2hr intel summit today (during work hours) at intel office, hp tower damansara at about 2pm, with a colleague of mine (who's off for d day) to get an update on the upcoming n claimed to be very powerful core i7...saw some interesting slides and also demo from intel with come comparison with the previous core2 extreme processor n looks like the numbers were quite amazing...but of course, good things do come in great prices :D

an overall summary, the upcoming processors will have a brand new socket lga 1366 n onli works on ddr3 rams which is under 1.65v n make sure ur power supply is at least 500w and above with 80+ efficiency.

there will be 3 types of core i7 available at launch, namely core i7 920 (2.66Ghz), core i7 940 (2.93Ghz) and core i7 extreme edition 965 (3.2Ghz). i won't be goin into details but there's always the good-ol wikipedia to help unsolve any mysteries in ur mind :)

e ink

ever thought about it or even heard of it at all ? it's a technology still very tender n young at the moment but has a very large potential in terms of its capabilities n possibilities in future.

wat's e-ink? hv u seen harry potter? there's a very cool moving newspaper/photo frame tat he has? it's one of the things that could really be done here in real life, seriously! it's actually a very thin sheet of electronic film (called e-paper) that can actually reproduce images with an ultra-low power consumption level. it was developed n meant for e-book (which is digital book for those of u who hvn't heard of e-book) devices. currently some strong contenders in d e-book devices are sony, iLiad n cybook ... some with different screen size, some with touch screens, some even integrate wi-fi to enable online e-book purchase through online stores n it doesn't come cheap. ranges from rm600 - 2000+ depending on model n features. unfortunately ... e-ink currently supports only b&w (black n white ...)

not onli in e-book devices, motorola has been d 1st company to employ e-ink into it's mobile phone series ... d motorola f3. not many ppl use it or even heard of it but it's been around since 2006 n it didn't really take off although the battery life was said to last for quite a long long time ... few reasons to tat, which is

1. no upper case / lower case
2. limited functionality
3. black & white
4. limited non-alphabet characters
5. limited lines of words

hmm, sad to hear it ? well, tat's all in 2006 ... today, we're close to 2009 and here's what we have. the readius, by polymer vision, a company developing e-ink partially owned by philips. initally meant for e-book device that comes with a foldable screen, re-designed n repackaged by philips again to become an ultra cool mobile phone. philips says tat this cool thingy will feature an 8" colour touch foldable screen tat could even play video, but i guess tat would take a bit of time until this ultra cool technology really matures :)

there's also d 1st magazine who features e-ink on it's october 2008 cover n advertisement, esquire. wanna see it? try googling through my search bar for it ... or mayb head straight to youtube n try e ink esquire ... you'll never know wat u can see in newsstands in the future :)

MacBook

as expected, after several rumours n spyshots surfaced on the website. Apple finally released their latest model of Macbook utilizing the "brick" manufacturing process where the whole frame of the notebook is cut-out entirely from a single piece of aluminium which means the new Macbook now uses a fully aluminium chassis similiar to MacbookPro compared to the previous models using plastic chassis.

Apart from the chassis, Apple has also added a discrete graphics card for the Macbook series, the nvidia 9400 mobile gpu compared to the intel mobile gpu, going 5 times faster. Not only that, the screen has also been upgraded to a 13.3" LED screen which is brighter and better power efficiency. The touchpad now features a multitouch function and also has a larger surface compared to the previous models.

last but not least, there's also a backlit-keyboard available for the mid-range model onwards (as usual there will b 3 different models offered by Apple for end-users) and pricing wise, the new Macbooks will start from USD$1,099 onwards. mid range model will be priced at USD$1,299 and the high end model will be at USD$1,599. there's also an SSD model with an unstated price

the plastic model (the older models) price will drop down to USD$999 (wow, big difference). hmm, still expensive :p but it's still a very nice laptop to have ... i don't mind surprises ... hEhe

Windows 7

new version of windows will be launched soon, well it's d 7th version of the windows operating system. don't wanna b fancy bout the naming convention so conveniently they chose to name it ... windows 7 :D
