windows 7

enuf of iPhone for the moment d ... hehe

it's now about the latest windows that's been going on for the past couple of weeks now. microsoft has been giving out the RC(release candidate) version of the windows 7 for many people interested in testing out the latest version of windows 7. the RC is set to expire march next year and after that specific date, the windows will shutdown every 2hrs of usage and they will start shutting down all RC after June 2010.

according to microsoft, windows 7 will be officially launched and available for sale @ 22nd October 2009 this year.

Microsoft will release six editions of Windows 7 but concentrate marketing efforts on two of them. The following Windows 7 editions will be made available:

* Windows 7 OEM
* Windows 7 Starter
* Windows 7 Home Premium
* Windows 7 Professional
* Windows 7 Ultimate
* Windows 7 Enterprise

looks familiar right? :)

Each edition of Windows 7 will come with a distinct feature set. It is generally the case that the more expensive editions of Windows 7 will ship with additional features that the less expensive ones do not ship with. Here are some examples:

* Windows 7 Home Premium is considered one of the main editions. It will ship with the Aero interface, Windows Media Center, multi-touch, handwriting features, DVD playback and probably image based backups.

* Windows 7 Professional builds up on the Windows 7 Home Premium edition by adding features like joining Windows domains, group policy based management tools, Remote Desktop host capabilities, network-based backup features, and support for the Encrypting file system.

* Windows 7 Ultimate and Enterprise contain all the features of Windows 7 Professional plus upport for BitLocker whole-drive encryption (and the new BitLocker To Go feature, which adds high-grade encryption to removable media). This edition also includes all supported language packs (those cost extra for other editions) and the capability to boot from a VHD.

another question directed towards microsoft right now would be the downgrade rights becoz many ppl still want to use windows xp to run their software. they have announced that they would allow users to downgrade from windows 7 to windows xp within the first six months purchase of a set of system with windows 7. this basically meant that businesses and individuals would be able to downgrade to Windows XP Professional if they purchased a new computer system running Windows 7 Professional or Windows 7 Ultimate before May 2010. the only downgrade after that six month period would be to Windows Vista.

there's also a training on windows 7 on the 7th of July by microsoft for oem resellers here. not sure what they're gonnna talk about. we'll see...
