online stores

as we seen mobile devices becoming a norm in the everyday society, so are the applications used in these mobile devices...

let's see, how many types of smart mobile platforms do u know about?

1. microsoft windows mobile 6.x
2. apple iphone os
3. nokia symbian
4. palm pre
5. google android
6. rim blackberry

these are the popular ones that i know of (not to mention others)

first off, what is the purpose of the platform? it's basically a software inside the mobile device which is capable of performing what you want it to do when you turn on the mobile device.

as you all might have known or may not know, all these mentioned mobile platforms are moving towards online stores in terms of gaining more potential customers and also attracting more developers in their own different platforms.

for instance :-
1. microsoft windows mobile 6.x - launching windows marketplace
2. apple iphone os - apple app store
3. nokia symbian - nokia ovi store
4. palm pre - palm app catalog
5. google android - android app market
6. rim blackberry - blackberry app world

each and every one of the stores provides free downloads and also paid downloads for users of each mobile platforms ease of access jus by tapping the store icon located on the mobile device.

Apple App Store

apple has juz announced that they've reached the 1.5BILLIONTH mark of app store downloads where they've just mentioned they've reached the 1st billion 3mths ago. that's a substantial amount to be added in jus a short timeframe of 3mths. they've a database of more than 65,000 different applications plus more than 100,000 developers under the developers program which makes it difficult for others to catch up. kudos to them~! USD$99 would get them the friendly and easy to use SDK (software developers kit) and also place to publish their own applications given they are approved by apple!

Google Android AppMarket

another platform i would be looking up to is the google android platform, which is currently the runner up in the mobile device applications race. more and more people are getting used to android and working to make it even better. even with giant manufacturers such as HTC and Sony Ericsson have come up with their personalized edition of android platform. no price for google developers now but heard that it's very lowprice and user friendly developers kit and also there's a 24hours no-questions-asked return policy for users who bought apps which they don't like!

Windows Mobile Marketplace

windows mobile, a longtime veteran in mobile platform is just starting to kickoff their online marketplace after seeing such success in bitter-rivals apple and newcomer android. we'll see how they fare-off in this "emerging online market" i would call it. listing price in windows mobile marketplace would be USD$99 for 5 apps a year and might be supporting credit card or carrier charging.

Nokia Ovi Store

nokia ovi store has just been launched about a mth ago and it's starting to pickup the pace due to the launch of new touch screen phones such as the xpress music 5800 and the newly launced n97 smartphone. this ovi store also caters to symbian s40 and s60 users which covers many many previous nokia smartphone users as well thus the rapid growth in this new store. the ovi store not only covers applications but they also provides ringtones, wallpapers, themes and basically everything you'll find suited for a symbian phone. at the moment, developing symbian apps is free and you can publish anything anywhere anytime unlimited!

Blackberry App World

blackberry's app world is also a newcomer into this online market and currently showing up in the app world are basically common software such as facebook, twitter, messenger and tons of other stuffs but heard that blackberry hasn't come up with a very good plan for developers to list their apps. a hefty price of USD$200 would be charged to list 10apps and this doesn't even include the SDK(software developer's kit) for users.

Palm Pre App Catalog

finally the palm pre store, which is still quite mysterious, i don't really know much about palm pre but it would be a device definitely worthy of looking up to.

what do you think?
